Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon kickstarter

It has been over 10 years since Chris Jones and Co. brought Tex Murphy back in Tesla Effect. After that, it has been a bit quieter, with some stuff dropping in and out about them having upscaled the original video tapes for the earlier games and teasing a possible remake. While one of these projects, Pandora Directive-remake, has gone on hiatus, all hope is not lost.

For a couple of years, a fan, Yuval Dorfman, has been making a remake of the first 3D and FVM-laced Tex Murphy game, Under a Killing Moon. And now, with the blessings from the game's original creators and rights holders, this remake has been brought to Kickstarter to make it as official a game as it can be.

The aim is to create the game in Unreal Engine, using the upscaled FMV scenes. Of course, all the other graphics and controls are updated to more modern standards as well. Currently, the Kickstarter for this game is going well. The initial goal of 50k has been passed, and the limit for proper full-time development, 150k, is more or less a done deal. The rest of the goals will allow more people to join, as well as make some expansions and additional content possible, for example, for the Moonchild spacebase.

But, beyond some additional things, the remake itself aims to be a faithful one. Sure, it will be possible to walk around Chandler Avenue, going in and out of the buildings and even sit at Louie's Brew & Stew, but the core, the puzzles and the story will remain as they were.

So yeah, if you want to help Under a Killing Moon get some new coat of paint and maybe help the rest of the games get their due, head on over to Kickstarter. Also, the first chapter is already playable and will be released to eligible backers after the funding drive is done. 30 dollars is the sweet spot for getting the game when it is done, as well as an already done chapter.
