Return of something wholly unexpected

Well, I'll be... this is really shaping up as a pretty strange year. The world has been, for a couple of years, what the heck it is and there are other crises around as well. But then there are the things I never thought I'd see.

The first was the return of Ken and Roberta Williams to the world of game design after being absent for a couple of decades. All the luck in the world for them. And then there was this, a thing I didn't believe I'd ever see: Ron Gilbert, no Aprils fools here, is finally doing his take on Monkey Island 3.

We don't know much yet, only the name, which seems to be Return to Monkey Island. As far we can tell from the trailer, there will be ghost pirates and at least the return of one fan favourite from the later, non-Gilbert games, Murray, the demonic skull.

So there, surprises never cease. Just when you've thought you've seen it all and nothing can surprise you anymore, there comes the curveball.

Then again, maybe this is just a belated Aprils' fools joke. But then again, it's coming in 2022, from Terrible Toybox, Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games.

Here's a trailer.
